I love writing! I’ve always loved how you can make anything up. I’m super-honest/factual in most situations but I love how I can make anything up when I write creatively. It’s an entirely different world for me. Every so often I’ll do a post with an array of photo writing prompts, hopefully, inspiring you to write something amazing. The photos used in the post are incredible and I think everyone should get credit for their work, so I’ve added in the photographer’s unsplash link so you can check out their other work if you’d like too.
I’ve made printables sheets for each photo writing prompt in this post. Click on the image below to print 7 Photos Writing Prompts. I’ve also added an extra lined sheets between every printable just in case inspiration takes hold of you.
This is a stunning photo! The way the horse is calm and relaxed in the sun is so peaceful. I’ve never ridden a horse but I think it would be so much fun to mix my love of the countryside with the thrill of riding through the trees.
You are the horse in the photo. You see the photographer taking your picture. Describe what you see, feel and hear.
This photo is amazing as it sparks so many story ideas. Is this person supernatural? Are they good or bad? Has someone done this to them? So many great ideas are popping into my head for a great story…
You were in your bed fast asleep but you are known to sleepwalk. You wake up outside in your pyjamas with a black substance covering your hands. Describe what happened.
On the Edge
I am terrified of heights, more like terrified of falling as I can climb up anything, it’s the coming down part I have an issue with. It’s taken me years to feel stable enough to stand on a chair to change a light bulb. 🙂 Thankfully there are people brave enough to take this photo because I’d never see it for myself.
You are the person taking a photo of the women on the edge of the cliff. She starts to lose her balance and you rush to save her. Describe what happens next.
Such a stunning photo! My favourite colour is this shade of blue. Who wouldn’t love to go here for a few weeks to relax and see this amazing view? Getting away from the normal daily rush would be refreshing. So I’ve added this photo in so we can dream and write about this place for the meantime till we can go there.
You’ve been on this beautiful island for a week of your three week holiday. You wake up one morning and go for a jog. Write everything you see, hear and smell.
The Little Cabin
What a cute little cabin. It must be amazing to walk to this cabin in the freezing cold then go inside with a little fire burning and cocoon yourself up in a cosy blanket.
You plan to take a weekend trip so you go to your idyllic little cabin in the middle of the woods alone. But, when you arrive, the light is on and someone is already in there. Write about what happens next.
Waking up early in the morning and seeing the frost covering everything is one of my favourite things about the colder months. The cold air is so refreshing. The best part is when you see the sunrise and witness the frost lose its battle. I love to write about the frost, deciding to make the frost a friend or foe is fun.
Personify the frost. Write as if you’re the frost and you try to take over.
The Hidden Plane
This photo is very random. How did they get it there? Did it crash? Was it put there before the trees grew? So many possibilities. It really gets my mind racing thinking of all the reasons why and how this happened. I have a fear of heights so seeing a plane makes my stomach turn so my writing would reflect that, what would yours reflect?
Write about this hidden plane. Have you just stumbled upon it or are you the person who hid it?
